Ostia antica

On the weekend we left central Rome and went to and old city called ostia antica about a 2000 year old port it had a hugh flood in 1557 which buried the city in silt the flood changed the course of the river so the port was lost and rediscovered in the late 1900. The whole area was made into a park whilst doing some work there they uncovered all these different artifacts they kept digging and found more and more things its approx 4 square km in size. Its a beautiful place it even has the original fish market with fish mosaics on the floor - a restaurant with the menu still attached to the wall well worth the visit a very calm place.
