Delft and Den Haag

We took the train to Den Haag what is the dutch seat of government and residence of the royal family. First we stoped at Delft a little town with narrow canals, streets and old buildings it looks like a smaller Amsterdam. We loved the town, its where Johannes Vemeer was born. His famous paintings "View of Delft" and the "Girl with the pearl earring" are in the Mauritshuis Museum in Den Haag. We went to the museum to see his works and 2 Rembrandts self portraits, one when he was 20 and another at 62. Den Haag is full of old beautiful buildings and parks. Den Haag (50 min. from Amsterdam) also is the residence of the Queen Beatrix. There is royal palace and mansions built in 17 century. For historical reasons the government and parliament are in Den Haag although Amsterdam is in fact the capital.
